The opportunities and challenges of cloud and digital transformation in industrial environments

In office environments and service industries, it is relatively easy to discover opportunities and benefits of a cloud enabled digital transformation. Flexibility in optimizing processes and workflows, the ability to provide inclusive environments for employees, suppliers, and customers, and of course a shift from investment towards operational costs. And much more once we take a closer look at the business model and market developments.

In industrial environments and manufacturing, the challenges and potential opportunities are much different, and on top of that comes a significantly higher requirement for autonomy of processes. The impact of a service interruption goes far beyond the duration of that interruption itself. In addition to that there are requirements for safety and process controls to be embedded within the equipment and in many cases, this is even made mandatory by regulations.

The conventional rules-of-thumb for critical services and SLA’s which apply to office environments and service industries do not cover the requirements for industrial environments and manufacturing. Based on more than 30 years hands-on experience in Industrial Automation, Cyber Security, and Digital Transformation, I offer pragmatic coaching and consulting services to enable a transition that fits the requirements. Independent and certified, with a toolbox that will bring your organization the benefits of Industry 4.0.
